2024-10-10 The Malaysia Reserved Online - Tropicana sells land for RM240m In Johor to establish regional data centre hub

TROPICANA Corp Bhd’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Tropicana Firstwide Sdn Bhd (TFSB), has sold 38.527 acres of freehold land in Gelang Patah, Johor, for RM240 million.

The purchaser, Computility Technology (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a sub-subsidiary of Beijing-based ZData Technologies Co Ltd, intends to use the site to develop a regional data centre hub.

Tropicana’s management highlighted Johor’s rapid emergence as a key digital infrastructure hub in Southeast Asia, driven by substantial investments in hyperscale data centres that are creating economic opportunities for the local community.

Over the past two years, Johor has attracted more than 50 data centres, bolstered by favorable government policies, robust connectivity, and solid infrastructure.

The company noted its strong presence and extensive landbank in Johor, positioning itself to offer strategic lands equipped with essential infrastructure, including electricity and water.

This land sale underscores Tropicana’s ability to meet the stringent requirements for data centre developments, backed by its development expertise and proven project delivery track record.

In addition to this transaction, Tropicana recently completed a RM383 million land deal with NTT Data Group in GelangPatah, which is expected to enhance the group’s cash flow and financial stability.

Tropicana is also seeking strategic partners to jointly develop over 728 acres of landbank in Johor, while its unbilled sales currently stand at RM2.3 billion.
