PETALING JAYA: Tropicana Corp Bhd (TCB) through its subsidiary Cenang Resort Sdn Bhd tied-up with Marriott International to build a five-star 270-key Sheraton Langkawi Resort & Spa at Tropicana Cenang, Langkawi.

In a statement yesterday, the property developer stated the collaboration came as there was increasing tourist and investor interest towards the island.

Tourist footfall in Langkawi has the potential to reach pre-pandemic levels, at four million arrivals annually.

Group managing director of Tropicana Dion Tan said; “Leveraging on the strategic location and increasing tourism footfall in Langkawi, we are confident that this 270key hotel will draw a lot of interest from tourists.

“In addition, Tropicana Cenang is a unique mixed development offering residential, hospitality and commercial components.

“With all these components in place, the planned hotel underscores our commitment to continue redefining the art of living in Langkawi.” Spanning 5.3 acres with an estimated gross development value of RM1.4bil, Tropicana Cenang provides a mix of mix of serviced suites and hospitality components.

The partnership marks TCB''s third hotel collaboration with Marriott International.

“Sheraton is the most global brand under Marriott Bonvoy portfolio and this is our third collaboration with TCB, with the first two being the popular W Kuala Lumpur and Courtyard by Marriott in Penang,” said senior director of hotel development, Asia-Pacific, Marriott International, Andree Susilo.

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts has over 430 hotels in more than 75 countries and territories around the world and is the most global brand within Marriott Bonvoy''s portfolio of extraordinary hotel brands.

The hotel features amenities like an ailday restaurant, beach-front restaurant, pool bar and destination rooftop bar.

Additionally, it also offers recreational facilities like a spa, swimming pool and wading pool, fitness centre and Kid''s Club.

The resort is also open to small, medium scale events as it is equipped with a ballroom, meeting rooms, and pre-function event space.

The agreement was signed between group managing director of Tropicana Dion Tan, and senior vice-president of Asia-Pacific Hotel Development, Marriott International, Kevin Chen.

“We are thrilled to expand our portfolio of hotels and resorts in Langkawi - one of the most beautiful and beloved islands in Malaysia.

“This signing further strengthens our commitment to bring a host of choices across our extraordinary brands to consumers in the country,” said Tan.

TCB closed at RM1.34 per share yesterday.
