The Star Metro - Fresh Fish for 628 Poor Families
Tropicana Foundation, the charity arm of Tropicana Corporation Bhd, teamed up with philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, better known as Uncle Kentang, to donate ikan patin (silver catfish) to 628 households in Klang Valley.
Joined by Tropicana Golf & Country Resort and Greenhouse Farm & Fishery, the Tropicana team worked together to clean, wrap and pack the fish to retain its freshness.
Tropicana executive director Foo Ken Nee conveyed his appreciation to the team for staying true to the group's mission to serve the community and also thanked Kuan for co-organising the initiative.
"It is our long-standing commitment to support our community.
"We are very happy to be able Contribution made possible by foundation and philanthropist to co-organise this charity initiative with Kuan Chee Heng as this donation will go towards helping 628 families across Klang Valley.
"Fish is an important source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids and iron, and Tropicana Foundation is committed to helping Malaysia build healthy, vibrant communities," he said.
Uncle Kentang, who got his nickname by donating potatoes to the poor, was bestowed the Commonwealth Points of Light Award by Queen Elizabeth II for his volunteer work in June this year.
The 57-year-old is only the fourth Malaysian to have received the award.
