China Press - School need to be upgrade in multi field
Petaling Jaya, 15 May 2017 - Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid apart from facilities, government school-based assessment, education system, teaching staff and etc, all need to be upgrade.
“Students has to experience learning to instill higher order thinking skill (HOTS), although having the latest technologies and resources, without critical and creative thinking capabilities and spirit of improving, it will not be fully utilized as well.”
He said our country is moving from exam-oriented education to producing a well-balanced and holistic nation.
Nurture all-rounder student
He added, learning should not only be for passing examinations but a lifelong journey, where one experiences deep personal achievement from learning new knowledge and skills.
He mentioned the above statement during his speech on the opening ceremony of St Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia. Among those who attended the ceremony are Tropicana Corp. Bhd. Founder and Advisor, Tan Sri Danny Tan Chee Sing, Group Executive Director Dion Tan Yong Chien, Chief Executive Office Datuk Yau Kok Seng, Brother Edmundo Fernandez, Brother Visitor of the Lasallian East Asia District (LEAD), and Chairman of the Board of Governor for St Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia, Michael Sng.
Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said, St Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia. Consist of latest facilities and hardware equipment for a complete internal school teaching and learning. More importantly, the school selects the best teaching staff to nurture all-rounder students.
Aside that, he said our country has 10,176 schools that includes 167 vision schools and 40 catholic government school. St Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia is the first international catholic school in Malaysia.
Regarding the report of case of a teacher arrested for allegedly molesting seven students at a religious school in Bandar Baru Bangi, he said, it is out of the jurisdiction of his ministry as it belongs to Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor. Hence, he gave no comments on the case.
Besides, Datuk Yau Kok Seng announced Tropicana Corp. Bhd. donates RM 3mil to St Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia.
