St Joseph's International School sets branch

Education Minister: Focus on student thinking development, education system turning to balance

Petaling Jaya, 15 May 2017 - Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid stated that our country is moving from exam-oriented education to producing a well-balanced and holistic nation as well as focusing on student’s critical thinking skill.

During his speech on the opening ceremony of St Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia, he stated that the whole new PT3 (Pentaksiran Tingkatan 3) served as student’s evaluation system to enable student in practicing higher order thinking skill (HOTS) during examination. This could also be a good foundation for our education system.

He emphasized the reason being is to build a good foundation for our education system.

“It regardless of private or publicschool, apart from the fundamental facilities, a school should improve teaching staff’s skill in order to provide quality education to students.”

He stated that St Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia is the first private school in this country to practice Lasallian holistic education while there are a total of 40 Lasallian public schools in the country.

“Ever since the first intake in last year August, the complete facilities and teaching staff of this international school now has 500 students.”

Regarding the case of a teacher arrested for allegedly molesting primary students at a religious school in Bandar Baru Bangi, Mahdzir said, it is out of the Ministry of Education’s jurisdiction and the case had passed to police department for further investigation.

“The case happened in the state’s religious school and the teacher involved is not from Ministry of Education, hence there’s anything we can do and comment.”

Among those who attended the ceremony are Brother Edmundo Fernandez, Brother Visitor of the Lasallian East Asia District (LEAD), Tropicana Corp. Bhd. Founder and Advisor, Tan Sri Danny Tan Chee Sing, his third son Dion Tan Yong Chien and Tropicana Corp. Bhd. Chief Executive Office Datuk Yau Kok Seng.
